Imagine if you can, being able to sit in front of your computer and instead of using a mouse for gaming or workflow, you could just use your thoughts.

Does this sound like technology that will be available years or decades from now? Well, a small software company has embarked on the mission of making thought controlled technologies a reality. In fact, just a few weeks ago, Jedi Mind, Inc. based in Cardiff, California introduced Jedi Mouse.

Used in conjunction with Emotiv’s headset, the Jedi Mouse is operated by the user to navigate the computer, click and double click to open programs, compose email and send with the power of their mind. While Jedi Mind is in the early stages of developing software applications for thought controlled interfaces, the implications of this technology are endless. Potential applications for the gaming market are only limited by one’s imagination.

Jedi Mind is currently developing a number of software applications at this time for the gaming world as well as medical applications.

The wireless headset, which is manufactured by Jedi Mind’s strategic partner, Emotiv, detects brainwaves on both the conscious and non-conscious level. The human brain is made up of approximately 100 billion nerve cells (or neurons). Each individual thought that a human has correlates to a specific firing pattern of neurons which is called cognitive mapping. By mapping these thoughts, the software application allows the human user to interact directly with a computer.

Jedi Mind currently has additional applications in the pipeline including new games designed specifically for thought controlled technologies, a second generation of the Jedi Mouse as well as interfacing with more popular gaming platforms. While the Jedi Mouse application represented a breakthrough, the company is in the early phases of development of much more sophisticated applications. These subsequent applications require much more programming.

At first, there have been many doubters; but after testing the headset and Jedi Mind’s applications, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The future of mind control software looks very bright and the sci-fi movie scenes you have watched whereby someone was controlling a mechanism with only their thoughts is not sci-fi anymore; it is here now.

Jedi Mind’s first two applications including Think-Tac-Toe and Jedi Mouse are available on their website for purchase. In the near future the company expects to begin using user feedback or beta testers to improve and perfect their applications. Once the wireless headset has been purchased from Emotiv, users can download the software from Jedi Mind’s website and install the application on their computer. Instructions are included and there are no wires or connections required except a wireless receiver on the host computer.
